ONITSHA, Anambra, Nigeria – Dr. Godwin Maduka who lost out in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) primaries says he remained in PDP to see how the party will resolve the lingering crisis arising from the factional governorship primary elections in Anambra State.
Maduka made the disclosure shortly after addressing the party’s statutory and adhoc delegates who were denied voting rights during the party’s primary elections in the state. Maduka who was among the party’s 16 aspirants said that he will remain in PDP to know the final outcome of the primary election, noting that if it is not resolved in his favour , he will decamp to another to pursue his governorship ambition.
“I want to know who is the candidate of PDP for the 2021 governorship election in Anambra state. PDP had factional primary elections. One faction produced a candidate and the other also produced another candidate , while I am the candidate of the masses. Almost 85 percent of the statutory and adhoc delegates want me to be the candidate.
“ We will wait for the final resolution on who is the candidate of the party. People want me and we know that if the primary election is properly conduct today to determine the party flag bearer. I, Maduka , will be the person .
All I can tell you now is that , if at the end PDP did not make me the candidate of the party , I will decamp to another party to run for the governorship position of the state ,I can assure you of that ” he said .
According to Maduka , he chose PDP before as a party to run for the position and now if it is possible to run without a party he will not hesitate do so .
He further said that his love for the adhoc and statutory delegates prompted him to gather and thank them for their immense support and commitment towards his ambition to liberate the state .
“I will go where the people want me to go , I loved them and they loved me , hence this gathering to thank them . I ‘am grateful to them for their support ” he said. He also said that he is in the political race to change the state political narrative , noting that if he becomes the governor of Anambra state he will make a great difference .
Maduka who claimed to be the epitome of village man said that if elected the governor of the state, he will revolutionize the economy of the state to touch the lives of rural people and others.
“People believe in what I have done and I am still doing . I am grateful to God almighty for raising me to the level I am today. If not God, how can a man who fell down from palm trees eight times to make a living going to farm every day, drinking water from unclean stream becoming one of the power house in the world.
“I thank God for that and I will continue to appreciate God by helping the poor in the society. These poor people are my encouragement and I always draw my strength and inspiration from them because they say wherever you go, we will go with you and I cannot abandon them now ” he said .
He also promised to make Onitsha and Nnewi the Dubai of Nigeria, if elected the governor of the state, saying that the state is losing much from the two business hubs cities due to lack initiative from the leaderships .
“I will build all the roads in the two cities ,dredge the Onitsha River so that light ships can come in and we can be clearing our goods right in Onitsha instead of Lagos . Most of the containers being cleared in Lagos belong to Anambra people and we cannot continue loosing these resources to other states ” he said.
