COVID-19: Nigeria bans travelers from India, Brazil and Turkey

LAGOS, Nigeria – The Nigerian government has banned inbound travelers from India, Brazil and Turkey as part of efforts to prevent resurgent of the Coronavirus pandemic in Nigeria.

Presidential Steering Committee on COVID-19 Chaired by Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Boss Mustapha who made the revelation in a statement said that anybody who has visited Brazil, India and Turkey within 14 days preceding their travel to Nigeria shall be denied  entry into Nigeria.

“These regulation, however does not apply to passengers who transited through these countries”, Boss Mustapha said.

According to him, defaulting airlines shall be liable to pay $3, 500 for each defaulting  passenger upon arrival. He said non-Nigerians will be denied entry and returned to the country of embarkation at cost to the airline.

He said Nigerians and those with permanent resident permits shall undergo 7-days quarantine in a government approved facility  at point of entry at cost to the passenger and shall be required to undertake COVID-19 PCR test.

He said those who test positive shall be admitted in government facility in with relevant protocols, while those who test negative will remain in quarantine for another 7 days.
