Israel bombs Al Jazeera, AP office in Gaza

GAZA – Israel few minutes ago hits the Al Jalaa building, a high rise building housing two media outfits, Al Jazeera and Associated Press(AP) as part of its continued bombardment of Gaza.

This is coming after earlier airstrikes hit a small refugee camp in Gaza killing at least 10 people taking shelter in the building among them 8 children. Prime Minister of Israel, Benjamin Netanyanhu  has said that that  the bombing of Gaza will not end very soon., following series of rockets launched into Israel from Gaza and other areas.

However, a journalists who works with Al Jazeera,  Linah Alsaafin said that Israel gave a warning  one hour earlier before the bombing, adding that her colleagues were evacuated before the  building was taken down.

Al Jazeera’s Safwat al-Kahlout :“I have been working here for 11 years. I have been covering many events from this building … now everything, in two seconds, just vanished”

Also speaking, – Harry Fawcett, Al Jazeera’s Jerusalem correspondent said:

“This is a very personal moment for all of us. The idea that the place is not there anymore is extraordinary to contemplate” – Harry Fawcett, Al Jazeera’s Jerusalem correspondent.

Dr Mostefa Souag, acting director general of Al Jazeera Media said “The destruction of Al Jazeera offices and that of other media organizations in al-Jalaa tower in Gaza is a blatant violation of human rights and is internationally considered a war crime”

The Hamas and Israel conflict has claimed 9 lives in Israel with several injuries, while over 138 people have been killed in Palestine.
