Ripples as Obaseki vows to probe Oshiomhole over N30 billion storm water project scam

LAGOS, Nigeria – The decision of the Dr. Godwin Obaseki-led Edo State Government to probe the N30 billion Edo Storm Water Project awarded during the tenure of former governor of the state, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole is causing ripples in the state.
In a public announcement, the Edo State Government said it received intelligence about plot by arsonists to torch the Ministry of Environment and Sustainability, where vital documents concerning the project is domiciled.
In the statement, Secretary to the Edo State Government, Mr. Osarodion Ogie said the government immediately deployed security operatives to guard the premises of the ministry overnight to protect the asset.
“ We have successfully evacuated these vital documents to a safe location to ensure integrity and readiness of the probe”, adding that government will ensure that it uncovers the details surrounding the project and its execution and that all those culpable will be brought to justice,
“We will do right by Edo people as always and work assiduously to ensure that our people get value for our money as regards the execution of the Edo State Storm Water project”, he said.
Speaking on the project, Edo State Governor, Godwin Obaseki declared that the N30b Benin storm water project embarked upon by the previous administration was a ploy to defraud Edo people.
“They spent N30b claiming that they want to take away the suffering of Edo people, de-flood the area and restore the value of people’s property, but see what has happened to the project for five years”, he said.
The project was still at foundation stage when the governor visited the site whereas N30 billion has been expended.
