LAGOS, Nigeria – Another youth from Itafaji area was shot dead by the notorious Agarawu boys on Sunday midnight while defending their area against incessant attack and robbery. The deceased identified as’TIROO’  had joined other youths at Itafaji area to resist aggression by the Agarawu boys who usually hide under the guise of fighting with Onola boys, to rob residents, visitors and traders along Alli Street.

Eye witnesses revealed that the combination of Itafaji youths who came together to resist Agarawu boys with cutlasses  were caught unaware when Agarawu boys  armed with local guns opened fire, which  hit Tiroo in the neck.

“Tiroo died on the spot as his team fled when Agarawu boys opened fire. His remains were buried on Monday morning”, the eye witness narrated. A source who spoke under anonymity revealed that the youths from Onola, Itafaji and other affected areas have resolved to defend themselves in anyway possible.

“We have even invited the service of Oodua People Congress (OPC) to apprehend the notorious Agarawu boys and hand them over to the Police for prosecution”.

Responding to why they didn’t invite the Police, he said, “The police officers are trying their best but these are too notorious and have fortified themselves against bullets. We can’t just sit down and fold our hands while they terrorise us. Our own is to complement the police efforts”.

\Meanwhile, some community leaders, CDA Chairmen, Igbo traders and other stakeholders in the affected areas met with the representative of the Police at the Pashi/Willoughby CDA Secretariat to find a lasting solution to the unrest.

Speaking with our correspondent after the meeting on Monday morning, the President of the Igbo traders in the area under the umbrella of ACSATAON, Dr. Chris Onyekachi Simon revealed that the meeting was success as both the stakeholders and the police agreed to intensify efforts to combat the attack and robbery.

“We have met and resolved to give the police full backing to deal with the situation by apprehending the culprits and prosecute them”, he said.

Onyekachi said, “We are using this opportunity to appeal to the Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu and the Commissioner of Police, Hakeem Odumosu to quickly intervene and put a stop to  the ongoing crisis between Onola and Agarawu boys in Lagos Island”.

Also, the Chairman of Pashi/Willoughby CDA, Mr Adamson Idowu appealed to parents of the troublesome youths to talk  to their children and wards to desist from joining the bad boys, warning that any of these boys found wanting will be prosecuted “.

Other stakeholders at the meeting includes the Chairman, Olosun CDA, representative of Obadina CDA, Alagbaa CDA and others.
