LAGOS, Nigeria -The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) has confirmed 1617 new cases of Coronavirus in the country;  bringing all time cases to 112,004. But out of the  112,004 confirmed  cases, 89,939 patients have been treated successfully and discharged, while 1,449 others could not make it alive, leaving Nigeria with 20, 616 active cases of Coronavirus.

Breakdown of the new cases is as follows, Lagos-776, Kaduna-147, Kwara-131, FCT-102, Plateau-78, Edo-59, Ogun-53, Osun-45, Rivers-37, Taraba-36, Nasarawa-34, Adamawa-33, Kano-26, Delta-20, Ebonyi-16, Bayelsa-11, Gombe-11 and Borno-2, making a total of 1617 new cases of Coronavirus.

There are now 95,435,122 confirmed cases of Coronavirus worldwide, 2, 037,076 lives have been lost to the virus, while 52,525,515 others have been treated and discharged. The world is now left with 40, 872, 531  active cases of Coronavirus based on the latest statistics from the Centre for Systems Science and Engineering, Johns Hopkins University, Maryland.

According to the Centre, the United States remains the most afflicted country, reporting 24,041,339 confirmed cases and 398, 588 deaths(170, 269 new and 1560 deaths*), followed by India which has confirmed 10, 571, 773 all time cases, 152, 419 deaths, while 10,211,342 others have been treated and discharged, leaving India with 208, 012 active cases of Coronavirus(13, 788 new and 145 deaths*) and Brazil which has confirmed 8, 488, 099 confirmations, 209, 847 deaths and 7,548,139 recoveries, leaving Brazil with 730, 113 active cases of Coronavirus(33, 040 new and 551 deaths*).

Russia remains the 4th country most hit by the virus, reporting 3, 552,888 all time cases, 65, 059 patients have passed on while    2, 947, 479 others have recovered and subsequently discharged, leaving Russia with 540, 350 active cases(22, 509 new and 458 deaths*), followed by the United Kingdom which has documented 3, 443,321 confirmations, 90, 030 people have lost their lives, while 8, 193 patients have been assisted to recovery since the onset, leaving the UK with 3, 345, 098 active cases of Coronavirus(37, 611 new and 603 deaths*) and France which has reported 2, 972,827 confirmed cases, 70, 825 patients are no more, while 216, 129 others have been treated and discharged, leaving France with 2, 685, 873 Coronavirus patients(40, 942 new and 731 deaths*).

Turkey  has come up as the 7th country worst hit, reporting 2, 392,963 confirmed cases, 24, 161 deaths and  2, 270, 769 recoveries, leaving Turkey with 98, 033 active cases of Coronavirus(5, 862 new and 164 deaths*), followed by Italy which has reported 2, 390, 102 confirmations,  82, 554 patients have passed on while   1, 760,489 others have been treated and discharged, leaving Italy with 547, 059  active cases of Coronavirus(8825 new and 377 deaths*) and Spain which has documented 2, 336, 451 all time infections, 53, 769 deaths and 150, 376 recoveries, leaving Spain with 2, 132, 306  active cases of Coronavirus(84, 287 new and 455 deaths*).

Germany retains the 10th country most afflicted with 2, 059,375 all time confirmations,  47, 263 deaths and 1, 713,196 recoveries, leaving Germany with 298, 916 active cases of Coronavirus(9195 new and 482 deaths *) and South Africa, now the 15th  country most hit, reporting 1, 346,936 cases,  37, 449 patients are no more, while 1, 117, 452 others have recovered, leaving South Africa with 192, 935 active cases of Coronavirus(9010 new and 344 deaths*).
