PORT HARCOURT, Rivers, Nigeria – The Interim Management Committee, IMC, of the Niger Delta Development Commission, NDDC, led by the Acting Managing Director, Prof. Kemebradikumo Pondei has said it has not authorized any group to engage in any form of advocacy on its behalf.
The NDDC made the statement following a statement issued by Mr. Kevin Ebi Thomas, President of the Niger Delta Peace and Development Advocates, NDPDA.
“We are worried by a recent press statement signed by the President of the Niger Delta Peace and Development Advocates, NDPDA, Mr Kelvin Ebi Thomas, calling for speedy payment of NDDC contractors and dabbling into matters concerning security agencies”, the NDDC said in a statement by its Corporate Affairs Director, Mr. Charles Obi Odili.
The commission said it does not want any group to cause disaffection between it and the security agencies, who have very important roles to play in maintaining peace and security in the Niger Delta region.
“We frown at any attempt to create bad blood between us and the security agencies that are our partners in progress”, the statement added, stressing that the NDDC management has not asked any group to plead with President Muhammadu Buhari to confirm the appointment Prof Pondei as the Commission’s Managing Director.
“While we appreciate the support and advice of Niger Delta stakeholders, we want to make it clear that the NDDC would rather have its performance, through projects and programmes, speak for it.
“Nigerians can directly appreciate the determination of the present IMC to reposition and refocus the NDDC for better service delivery in its nine mandate states”, the commission said, restating its unyielding determination to manage and ensure the successful completion of on-going forensic audit of the Commission.
