Again, fuel laden tanker explodes on Lagos Ibadan expressway

LAGOS, Nigeria – The bridge by Otedola Housing Estate on the Lagos Ibadan Express Way became the scene of another fire incident in Lagos State, when a tanker laden with fuel exploded at about 2:20 am on Saturday.
According to the spokesman of Lagos State Emergency Management Agency, LASEMA, Nosa Okunbor, there was no casualty in the incident but that it was discovered that a 40ft containerized truck loaded with fabric, had a brake failure while moving inward Berger.
It then collided with a tanker loaded with 33000 liters of PMS. The impact of the collision, he stated, resulted in the fire outbreak.
“The incident, occurred when a trailer laden with fabrics was experiencing mechanical error, crashed into an oil tanker on motion but recorded no casualties nor injuries.
“However, the fire affected the 40ft containerised truck and high tension wire in the incident, which was transmitted on the Agency’s 767/112 Emergency Toll Free Lines at 2:49Am with a three- minute response time.
He insisted that no casualty was recorded and that the combined effort by Lagos State Fire Fighters and LASEMA Response Team ensured that the fire was out out. He added that the LASEMA Response Team, LRU Fire, Lagos State Fire service, FRSC and LNSC were all present at the incident scene.
He said that a stationary truck with registration number KBG 91 XA containing PMS, which wasn’t involved in the collision was equally affected by the fire.”

At the time of filing this report damping at the scene of the accident, had been concluded for LASEMA heavy duty evacuation equipment to commence operation.
