Total Upstream/NNPC donates science laboratories to schools in Onicha-Ugbo
ONICHA-UGBO, Delta, Nigeria – A science block consisting of five laboratories equipped with state of the art science apparatus for chemistry, physics, biology, home economics and agricultural science, to enhance learning has been donated to St Pius X Grammar School Onicha Ugbo, Delta state by Total Upstream, NNPC and partners.
Our Correspondent reports that the project elicited excitement and appreciation-from stakeholders who applauded the sighting of the project in Delta State.
Speaking on the occasion via Zoom, the General Manager in charge of Corporate Social Responsibility, Total Upstream, Ajukwura Wokoma on behalf of Total Upstream, said the project is one of numerous others embarked upon by NNPC, Total Upstream and partners since 2016.
He said that so far, Total and partners have awarded 84 projects in its 3 phases corporate social responsibility projects, adding that some have been inaugurated while others are yet to be commissioned.
The Delta State Commissioner for Education, represented by the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Education Comrade Samuel Dietake commended Total, NNPC and partners for their gesture, promising that they will make proper use of the laboratories.
The Project Manager Engr. Chukwuemeka Ukpaka said the fully equipped science laboratories with state of art facilities are arguably the best in the state.
He was also optimistic of significant benefits to the school because of its proximity to students for their practical examination. According to him, students from other schools not privileged to have such equipped laboratories will also benefit if properly harnessed.
For The principal of St Pius X Grammar school Rev Fr. Anthony Banye, the facilities is an answer to prayers that will change the narrative of science students as well as improve not only the school ‘s physical environment but also its learning culture, infuse the vision and passion and interaction between teachers and students.

Some old boys of the school applauded the gesture, thanking NNPC, Total Upstream and partners saying since the inception of the school they have not seen anything like this.
The Executive General Manager, Corporate Social Responsibility, CSR, Total, Mr. Vincent Nandi, and Mr. Ajukwura Wokomah, General Manager, Health Safety & Environment, Deepwater, Total Exploration & Production Nigeria were also present at the virtual ceremony.
