PETROAN explains why members must government where they operate
ONITSHA, Anambra, Nigeria – The zonal chairman of Petroleum Products retail Outlets Owners Association of Nigeria (PETROAN) south East, Mr. Sunny Nkpe has appealed to Anambra State members not to be confrontational with government and its agencies.
PETROAN is an association of people with license to operate filling station in Nigeria. He made the appeal in Awka Anambra state capital while inaugurating the new executives officers of the association in the state.
He said that for the association to be successful in the state, the executive and members must work in synergy with the government according to operational laws, saying that nobody can survive without having good relation with the government and its agencies when it comes to ease of doing business.
“Always go for dialogue with government when you discover that some policies are not favourable to your business. Talk to the government and explain your position. No government is happy when the people are suffering . Discuss with government to find out solutions to any problem you maybe having in your business as result of policy. You don’t need to be confrontional with Government to find solutions to your problem.

“Remember you are an association of business men and women and not labour union. Do not work in affiliation with any union that does not have common goals with you and your major goal is to do your business peacefully. Don’t join anybody or association to fight Government” he warned.
According to him in all the states where PETROAN operates, it always works with government to achieve seamless business operations.
He also urged the executives to make sure their members work within ambit of the laws of the state, saying that PETROAN would not support any person who goes against the laws of the land in the cause of doing business.
He also appealed to members to always provide quality services to the public at all times. The zonal chairman also urged members to take fire insurance policy for their various filling station to cushion the effect of any fire outbreak.
“The fact that you have not experienced fire outbreak in your filling station does not mean it cannot happen. Take a fire service policy to protect your business and also relate well with fire services in the state and listen to their advices” he said.
Speaking earlier, chairman of the Anambra state chapter of PETROAN, Mr. Charles Oraika promised to carry everybody along and to work according to the law of the land in the state.
He said he will work with all stakeholders in the sector to have a harmonious relation with government and its agencies.
In his remarks, secretary of PETROAN Anambra chapter, Simeon Egemba said that the association will abide by all of its constitutional provisions and laws in the state where they operate.

According to him, PETROAN would not encourage any of it members to go against laid down rules of doing business, saying that for any person to be a member he must possess valid license. He also said that the association would provide helping hands to members to grow in their business .
Speaking at the occasion, commandant of Anambra state fire service Mr. Martin Igbili urged the PETROAN members to ensure that there is fire extinguishers in their filling stations .
Igbili who spoke through one of his men Mr Agu Chukwulewe said most filling stations in state are not serious about having functional fire extinguishers which is very dangerous and detrimental to their business.
“Most of fire the extinguishers in the filling stations are not working because owners are not serious about them and they hardly check them.
“Please, every morning check the workability of all fire extinguishers in your filling station. If any is not working please replace it, fire is something that you can hardly control if it is allowed to escalate,” he added.
He urged owners of filling stations to always monitor what their workers do in the station especially in relation to fire protection.
