NDDC opens up on alleged payment of money as palliative to residents
LAGOS, Nigeria – The management of Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) has said it is not paying out cash as palliatives, contrary to what some members of the public have been made to believe.
The NDDC issued the statement following activities of some individuals who are sending fraudulent mails to indigenes of the Niger Delta, asking them to submit bank detains so as to benefit from alleged monetary palliatives from the NDDC.
The commission added that distribution of palliatives to indigenes of the region has since been concluded by the committee set up for the exercise and as such anybody compiling names for palliatives is not doing it for the commission but for the purpose of defrauding people.
The NDDC encouraged indigenes of the region to report such persons to security agents for appropriate sanctions.
“It is true that NDDC distributed medical aids and food items as palliatives to ameliorate the sufferings of the people in the nine states of the Niger Delta region. The Commission, indeed, set up a committee to handle the distribution of the palliatives to cushion the effects of Coronavirus on our people, especially the vulnerable ones.
“We also made available N775 million to support the nine states in the Niger Delta region, in addition to releasing another N270 million as palliatives for women, youths and physically challenged persons in the region. Our committee on the distribution of palliatives has since concluded its assignment. Thus, anyone luring people to submit bank details for palliatives is a fraudster and should be treated as such”, the NDDC said in a statement signed by its Director Corporate Affairs, Mr. Charles Obi Odili.
