Coronavirus: 290 new in Nigeria, 62,064 in India, see cases in top 12 countries

LAGOS, Nigeria – The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) has confirmed 290 new cases of Coronavirus, bringing the total number to 46, 867 confirmed cases.

However, out of the 46, 867 confirmations, 33, 346 patients have been discharged, while 950 others have passed on, leaving Nigeria with 12, 571 active cases.

Breakdown of the 290 cases is as follows, Lagos-82, Plateau-82, Oyo-19, Abuja-18, Edo-16, Kaduna-15, Enugu-9, Ogun-9, Kano-8, Kwara-8, Cross River-5, Ondo-5, Rivers-5, Ekiti-4,  Imo-3 and Borno-2, making a total of 290 new cases of Coronavirus in Nigeria.

Globally, there are 19, 952, 057 confirmed cases, 732, 689 deaths, while 12, 150, 698 others have recovered, the Centre for Systems Science and Engineering, Johns Hopkins University, Maryland has said.

According to the centre, the United States still leads in the ranks of most affected countries, reporting 5, 074,  059 cases, 163, 282 deaths, while 1, 656, 864 others have recovered, leaving the United States with 3,253, 913 active cases(33,155 new cases) , followed by Brazil with 3,035, 422 confirmed cases,  101,049 deaths, while 2, 356, 983 patients have recovered, leaving Brazil with 577, 390 active cases of the pandemic(23,010 new cases)  , followed by India, which has documented 2,215, 074 confirmed cases, 44, 386 deaths, while 1, 535, 743 patients have recovered, leaving India with 634, 945 active cases of the virus(62,064  new cases).

Russia is 4^th in the  league of most afflicted countries, reporting 890, 799 confirmed cases, 14, 973 deaths, while  695,317 patients have been able to recover, leaving Russia with 180, 509 active cases, followed by  South Africa(SA), the 5^th most affected country with 559, 859 confirmed cases,  10, 621 deaths while 417, 200 patients have been able to recover, leaving SA with 132, 038 active cases of the pandemic(213 deaths in the last 24 hours, no new case), followed by Mexico with 480, 278 cases,  52, 298 deaths, while 384, 432 patients have recovered, leaving Mexico with 43, 548 active cases of the virus.

Occupying the 7^th spot in the rank is Peru, which has reported 478, 024 confirmed cases,  21,072 deaths, while 324, 020 patients have been discharged, leaving Peru with 132, 932 active cases of the pandemic, followed by Colombia(8) with 387, 481 confirmed cases, 12, 842 deaths, while 212,688 others have recovered, leaving Colombia with 161, 951 active cases of the pandemic, followed by Chile(9) with 375, 044 confirmed cases, 10, 139 deaths, while 347, 342 patients have recovered, leaving Chile with 17, 563 active cases of the virus.

Now in the 10^th spot, Iran  has reported 328,  844 cases, 18, 616 deaths,  while 286, 642 others have recovered, leaving  Iran with 23, 586 active cases of the virus, followed by  Spain(11) with 322, 980 confirmed cases, 28, 576 deaths, while 150, 376 patients have recovered, leaving Spain with  144, 028 active cases of the pandemic(8,618 new cases and 73 deaths in the last 24 hours) , followed by United Kingdom in the 12^th spot with  313,890 confirmed cases,  46, 611 deaths, while only  1, 451 patients have recovered since the first case was reported, leaving the U.K with 265, 828 active cases(1, 340 new cases) and then Italy in the 16^th spot, with 250, 825 confirmed cases, 35, 209 deaths, while 202, 248 patients have been discharged, leaving Italy with 13, 368 active cases of the pandemic (259 new cases and 4 deaths) and France(19) with 239, 306 confirmed cases, 30, 327  deaths, while 82, 971 patients have recovered, leaving France with 126,008 active cases and China, where the pandemic was first reported.

China has documented 88, 862 confirmed cases, 4, 689 deaths, while 82, 125 patients have been able to recover, leaving China with 2,048 active cases of the pandemic.
