LAGOS, Nigeria – The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control(NCDC) has confirmed  556 new cases of Coronavirus in Nigeria, bringing the total number to 36, 663.

Out of the 36,663 cases, 15, 105 Nigerians have been discharged; while 789 others could not make it alive, leaving Nigeria with 20,769 active cases of Coronavirus.

Breakdown of the 556 new cases is as follows:  Edo-104, Lagos-97, FCT-70, Benue-66, Oyo-61, Kaduna-38, Plateau-28, Osun-19, Akwa Ibom-14, Rivers-13, Katsina-13, Ondo-13, Ogun-6, Kano-5, Nasarawa-4, Gombe-2, Ekiti-2 and Borno-1.

However, there are 14, 394, 056 confirmed cases,  603, 679 deaths, while 8,084, 942 others have recovered, the Centre for Systems Science and Engineering, John Hopkins University, Maryland has said.

According to the centre, the United States remains the most affected, reporting 3, 760, 327 cases, 140, 466 deaths, while 1, 131, 121 others have recovered(83,385 new cases in the last 24 hours), leaving the U.S with 2, 488, 740 active cases, followed by Brazil  with 2,074, 860 confirmed cases, 78,772 deaths, while 1, 459,072 Brazilians have been discharged(31,453 new cases in 24 hours), leaving the state with 537, 016 active cases.

India is next with 1,077, 781  cases, 26, 816 deaths, while 677, 423 Indians have recovered(39,065 cases in 24 hours), leaving  India with 373, 542 active cases, followed by Russia, which has documented 770, 311 cases, 12, 323 deaths, while 549, 387 Russians have recovered(6,096 new cases), leaving the state with  208, 601 active cases.

South Africa, now number 5 in the ranks of most affected countries has documented 364, 328 cases,  5,033 deaths, while 191,059 South Africans have recovered(26, 734 new cases in the last 24 hours), leaving the state with 168, 236 active cases, followed by Peru(6) with 349, 400 cases, 12,998 deaths, while  238, 086 others have recovered, leaving Peru with 98,316 active cases. 

Mexico (6) is next with 338, 913 cases, 38,888 deaths, while 271, 239 others have been discharged, leaving Mexico with 28, 786 active cases of the pandemic.

Chile, now in the 7th spot is next with 330, 930 cases, 8, 503 deaths, while 301, 794 others have been discharged, leaving Chile with 20, 633 active cases, followed by  the United Kingdom, occupying the 9th spot in the rank of most affected nations. The U.K has documented 296,358 confirmed cases, 45, 385 deaths, while only 1, 413 citizens have recovered (727 new cases), leaving the U.K with 249, 560 active cases of the pandemic.

Iran is next with 273, 788 cases, 14, 188 deaths, while 237, 788 Iranians have recovered, leaving Iran with 21, 812 active cases, and then China, now in the 25th spot in the rank of most affected countries. China has documented 85,314 cases, 4, 644 deaths, while 80, 018 Chinese have recovered, leaving China with 652 active cases of the pandemic.
