LAGOS, Nigeria – The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC), has confirmed 624 new cases of Coronavirus in Nigeria, bringing the total number of confirmed cases to 41,804.

Out of the 41,804 confirmed cases, 18,764 patients have been discharged, while 868 others unfortunately passed away, leaving Nigeria with 22, 172 active cases of the pandemic.

Breakdown of the new cases is as follows: Lagos-212, Oyo-69, Niger-49, Kano-37, Osun-37, FCT-35, Plateau-34, Gombe-33, Edo-28, Enugu-28, Ebonyi-17, Delta-10, Katsina-9, Ogun-8, Rivers-7, Ondo-5, Kaduna-4 and Nasarawa-2, making a total of 624 new cases of Coronavirus in Nigeria.

Globally, there are now 16, 605, 067 confirmed cases, 657, 643 deaths, while 9, 667,033 others have recovered and subsequently discharged, the Centre for Systems Science and Engineering, Johns Hopkins University, Maryland has said.

According to the centre, the United States remains the most afflicted worldwide, reporting 4, 341, 201 cases, 149,052 deaths, while 1, 325,804 others have recovered, leaving the U.S with 2, 866, 345 active cases of the pandemic (64,345 cases in the last 24 hours), followed by Brazil, which has documented 2, 442, 375 cases, 87, 618 deaths, while 1, 868, 749 patients have recovered, leaving Brazil with 486,008 active cases of the pandemic(23,284 cases in the last 24 hours).

India is next with 1, 483, 156 cases, 33, 425 deaths, while 952, 743 Indians have recovered, leaving India with 496, 988 active cases of the virus(47, 703 cases in the last 24 hours), followed by Russia, which has reported 822, 060 cases, 13, 483 deaths, while 611,109 Russians have recovered, leaving Russia with 197, 468 active cases of the pandemic, followed by  South Africa with 459, 761 confirmed cases, 7, 257 deaths, while 287,313 others have recovered, leaving South Africa with 165, 191 active cases(7, 232 cases in the last 24 hours).

Mexico is in the 6th spot in the league of most affected nations, reporting 402, 697 cases, 44, 876 deaths, while 310, 164 Mexicans have been discharged, leaving Mexico with 47, 657 active cases of the pandemic(7,208 cases in 24 hours), followed by Peru with 389, 717 cases,  18, 418 deaths, while 272,547 Peruvians have recovered, leaving Peru with 98, 752 active cases of the virus, followed by Chile with 349,800 cases, 9,240 deaths, while 322,332 patients have been discharged, leaving Chile with 18, 228 active cases of the pandemic.

The United Kingdom is next in the 9th spot, reporting 302, 293 confirmed cases, 45, 963 deaths, while only 1, 437 patients have recovered, leaving the U.K with 254, 893 active cases(588 cases in the last 24 hours). The U.K remains an example of poor management of the pandemic so far, being the only country in Europe with high casualty and low rate of recovery.

Iran is in the 10th spot with 296, 273 confirmed cases, 16, 147 deaths, while 257, 019 patients have recovered, leaving Iran with 23, 107 active cases of the pandemic.

In the 11th spot is Spain, with  280, 610 cases,  28, 436 deaths, 150, 376 others have been discharged from isolation centres, leaving Spain with 101, 798 active cases of the pandemic(8, 189 cases in the last 24 hours) and  Italy in the 15th spot in the league of most affected countries.

Italy has reported 246, 488 cases, 35, 123 deaths, while 198, 786 Italians have recovered, leaving Italy with 12, 579 active cases of the pandemic. Italy has demonstrated good example of encouraging management of the pandemic thus far.

 China (26th) where the pandemic was first reported has documented 86, 889 cases,  4, 656 deaths, while 80, 508 Chinese have been discharged, leaving China with  1, 725 active cases of the pandemic(174 new cases in the last 24 hours).
