Benin Throne is not partisan, Oba of Benin tells PDP, APC

BENIN, Edo, Nigeria – The Benin Traditional Council has assured residents of Edo State, that the Throne is not partisan, meaning it is neither supporting, Governor Godwin Obaseki of the Peoples Democratic Party(PDP) nor Pastor Ize Iyamu, candidate of the All Progressive Congress(APC) in the September 19 Governorship election.
“ We wish to reiterate and emphasize once more that the Benin Throne is not partisan”, the Benin Traditional Council said in a statement signed by its Secretary, Mr. Frank Irabor.
The state advised all political parties not to turn the state into a war zone as a result of gubernatorial ambition.
“His Royal Majesty is committed to peace and tranquility in the state and the coming gubernatorial election”, the statement added, and enjoined all indigene to enjoin his royal majesty to pray for peace in the upcoming election.
The palace issued the statement following incidents in front of Oredo Local Government Secretariat outside the palace after the visit of Governor Godwin Obaseki to the palace on Saturday, 25th July, 2020.
The statement added that the Oba, Omo N’Oba warmly welcomed the visitor to his palace and that the meeting was cordial and that during the visit, the Oba recalled the warm welcome he received on a Thank You visit to Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers State and Governor Aminu Tambuwal of Sokoto State.
