3rd Mainland Bridge closure: Sanwo-Olu assures Lagosians of seamless movement
LAGOS, Nigeria – Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has assured Lagosians of seamless movement ahead of the partial closure of the Third Mainland Bridge, noting that only 25 per cent of road users will be affected.
Speaking on Thursday at the Lagos House, Marina, when heads of Federal Road Safety Commission, FRSC, and Nigeria Security Civil Defence Corps, NSCDC, paid him a courtesy visit, Sanwo-Olu emphasised that 75 per cent or 80 per cent of other road users plying the route would still be able to do so.
The Governor, who said the state is fully prepared to deploy over 650 LASTMA officials to ensure free flow of traffic, said efforts have been intensified to rehabilitate alternative routes, clear the waterways and ensure that additional jetties are operational, to support the existing ones.
He added that additional 600 buses will start plying routes such as Abule – Egba, Alausa, Ikeja and Ebutte Metta by August.
While responding, head of FRSC, Olusegun Ogungbamide, said 250 officers of the Commission will be deployed to control traffic on both the 3rd Mainland Bridge and alternative routes.
He added that since the 3rd Mainland Bridge is a federal road, the onus is on the Commission to give the partial closure serious attention.
Head of NSCDC, Adeyinka Ayinla, said because of the volume of traffic, the partial closure would witness men of the corp ready to provide adequate security for motorists and commuters 24 hours round the clock.
