NEW YORK, United States – World Boxing Organisation(WBO) Junior Lightweight title  holder, Jamel Herring has tested positive to the Coronavirus pandemic.

The American boxer who made the revelation on the social media said he tested positive to the virus last week and will no longer be in a position to defend his title with Jonathan Oquendo initially scheduled for July 2, 2020.

Jamel Herring said the bout will be rescheduled shortly and that the goodnews is that he is feeling  okay and has self isolated until he will receive a clean bill of health.

“The good news however is, I feel ok and have self-isolated until I receive a clean bill of health.  My WBO Junior Lightweight world title defense against Jonathan Oquendo will be rescheduled shortly”, he said.

Born 30 October 1985  in New York, United States, Jamel William Herring, better known as “Semper Fi” has held the WBO junior lightweight title since 2019.

As of May 2020, he is ranked world’s third best active junior lightweight by The Ring and fourth by the Transnational Boxing Rankings Board.
