MINNEAPOLIS, United States – Autopsy carried out on George Floyd by a team of renowned independent medical doctors has revealed what led to the untimely death of the rights activist.
In a statement, Counsel to the family of George Floyd, Benjamin Crump said world renowned medical examiners, Dr. Michael Baden and Dr. Allecia Wilson carried out the medical examination.
According to him, George Floyd’s medical examination by the two revealed that he died of asphyxiation, occasioned by sustained pressure on the neck.
The City of Minneapolis clearly has a pattern, custom and practice of failing to train and discipline its police officers, creating a culture of impunity, allowing them to treat people of colour as lesser human beings, unworthy of basic respect

“World renowned medical examiners, Dr. Michael Baden and Dr. Allecia Wilson found the manner of George Floyd’s death was homicide caused by asphyxia due to neck and back compression that led to a lack of blood flow to the brain.
“ Sustained pressure on the right side of Mr. George Floyd’s carotid artery impeded blood flow to the brain, and weight on his back impeded his ability to breath.
“The independent examiners found that weight on the back, handcuffs and positioning were contributory factors because they impaired the ability of Mr. George Floyd’s diaphragm to function”, adding that from all evidence, it now appears that George Floyd died on the scene in the street of Minneapolis.
Consequently, Attorney, Ben Crump and George Floyd family have called on the authority to bring charge of First Degree Murder on Derek Chauvin, under whose knees, Floyd took his last breath.
Chauvin’s use of neck pressure for at least eight minutes, including multiple minutes after Floyd said he could not breath, after witnesses and paramedics expressed concern for his health and safety constitutes premeditation and warrants a First Degree Murder Charge
They also called for the arrest and prosecution of the three others on the scene who watched without prevailing on their colleagues to stop the inhuman act.
Ben Crump quoted one of the examiners, Dr. Baden as noting that the police have the impression that once you can talk, you can breathe, but “that is not true”, he said, adding that George Floyd would have been alive today but for the pressure on his neck by Derek Chauvin who has been sacked and two other officers who knelt on his back.
“Mr. Floyd’s death was a homicide by officers who taunted him while holding him down for more than eight minutes. And the officer who stood by doing nothing was a physical blue shield, a living symbol of the code of silence”, he said.

Co-counsel, Antonio Romanucci of Romanucci & Bladin LLC said while it was Chauvin’s knees that pressed into Mr. Floyd’s neck, it was the culture of the Minneapolis Police Department that was legally responsible for his death.
“The City of Minneapolis clearly has a pattern, custom and practice of failing to train and discipline its police officers, creating a culture of impunity, allowing them to treat people of colour as lesser human beings, unworthy of basic respect”, she said.
Continuing, Crump said Chauvin’s use of neck pressure for at least eight minutes, including multiple minutes after Floyd said he could not breath, after witnesses and paramedics expressed concern for his health and safety constitutes premeditation and warrants a First Degree Murder Charge.
