COVID-19: APC chieftain tells Obiano to give free medicals to vulnerable
ONITSHA, Anambra, Nigeria – A chieftain of All Progressive Congress (APC) and philanthropist , Engr Johnbosco Onunkwo has called on the governor of Anambra state, Chief Willie Obiano to provide free medical to the vulnerable in the state.
According to him, the governor should open up all government hospitals and primary healthcare centers to provide free healthcare services for pregnant women, children and those above 60 years.
Onunkwo in a statement he personally signed on Sunday, urged the state government to lessen the sufferings of Anambra people who seek medical treatment for a number of ailments at this critical time.
“ In the advent of the Coronavirus and the efforts to check the spread, we are aware that certain policies of the government and the effects of the virus itself will to an extent affect the purchasing power of a number of people in Anambra State.
The pandemic and other resultant factors will continue to weigh down on the purchasing power of the ordinary man and woman. It is to this end that I urge the government to implement a set of measures that will see that a category of people seeking medical attention in state government hospitals and primary healthcare centers are treated free.
This will enable them to have some money to purchase drugs and food as well as provide themselves with certain essentials required for everyday living” he said.
According to him, he would have suggested that everybody be captured in the free medical treatment within this period, given the pains people are passing through now.
“I will be happy if Governor Obiano via this measure will be able to cater for all pregnant women, women, children and both man and those who have attained the age of 60 and above. “he said
The philanthropist who has through his foundation, the Johnbosco Onunkwo Foundation been offering free medical care to Anambra people stated that the foundation would aggressively continue to offer free medical services immediately the Lockdown is lifted.
“ We have been in the business of catering for a number of people, we intend to continue to offer succour to people as soon as the restrictions on large gatherings are lifted; covering as many LGA’s as we can before Christmas this year”, he said.
