Buhari to appoint Gambari, first globally acclaimed figure into cabinet
LAGOS, Nigeria – There are indications that President Muhammadu Buhari will for the first time appoint a globally acclaimed figure into his cabinet, in the person of Professor Ibrahim Gambari.
Professor Ibrahim Gambari may be appointed as Chief of Staff to succeed Abba Kyari who died few weeks ago of the deadly Coronavirus pandemic.
Although, there is no official statement to that effect, Professor Ibrahim Gambari, who was Nigeria’s Permanent Representative to the United Nation has been sighted at the Presidential Villa, just moment before the Federal Executive Council meeting holding today in Abuja.
If announced, Gambari will be the first professional, a non-politician and a figure of international repute to be appointed by President Muhammadu Buhari since he assumed office.
Born November 24, 1944, Professor Ibrahim Gambari is 76 years old and hails from the Fulani ruling class of Ilorin, Kwara State.
He was educated at Kings College, Lagos, London School of Economics(BSc) with specialisation in International Relations, he later obtained his MA inb1970 and PhD in 1974 from Colombia University, New York.

Professor Ibrahim Gambari was Minister of External Affairs between 1984 and 1985 when President Muhammadu Buhari was military Head of state and was Nigeria’s ambassador to the UN from 1990 to 1999.
He also served as President United Nations Children Fund(UNICEF) and UN under Secretary General. He was also Chairperson, African Union Commission from January 2010 to July 2012.
