NJC releases names of 70 nominees for heads of courts, judicial officers

ABUJA, Nigeria – The National Judicial Council(NJC) has released names of 4 heads of courts, 64 Judicial Officers for states and the Federal Capital Territory, FCT High Courts and two Kadis, Sharia Court of Appeal recommended for appointment.

The National Judicial Council under the Chairmanship of the Chief Justice of Nigeria, Honourable Dr. Justice I. T. Muhammad CFR, at its 91st Meeting held online, considered the list of candidates presented by its Interview Committee and resolved to recommend the under-listed names of Seventy (70) successful candidates to their respective State Governors for appointment as Heads of Courts and other Judicial Officers in Nigeria.

Hon. Justice M. B. Dongban was recommended for appointment as President Court of Appeal, Hon. Kadi Muhammad Sani Salihu was recommended for appointment as Grand Kadi, Sharia Court of Appeal, Jigawa State while Hon. Kadi Muhammad Tambari Usman was recommended for appointment as Grand Kadi, Sharia Court of Appeal, Sokoto State.

Hon. Justice Aderonke Adekemi Aderemi was recommended to the Oyo State Government as President, Customary Court of Appeal, while eight others were recommended to the Governor of Lagos State for appointment as judges, High Court of Justice. They are Olatokun Dorcas Taiwo, Oshoala Yhaqub Gbadebo, Olukolu Rasul, Oguntade Omotola Ibironke, Olaitan Sharafa Abioye, Pokanu Adeniyi, Ashade Ezekiel Oluwole and Sule Amzat Olufunke.

Five others were recommended to the Governor of Delta State for appointment as Judges, High Court of Justice. They are Aaron Ighoverio, Emmanuel Zimi Dolor, Onome Marshal Umukoro, Agboje Veronica Oka and Enenmo Onyeawuli Ferdinard.

Two candidates were recommended to the Jigawa State Government for appointment as Judges, High Court of Justice. They are Musa Ubale and Hussaina Adamu Aliyu.

Others are Chiemezie Chido Nwakanma and Philomena Onyeje Nweka who were recommened to Abia State Government for appointment as Judges, High Court of Justice. Five others were also recommended to the Kwara State Government for appointment as High Court of Justice. They are Olanipekun Sherifat Bola, Funsho Dada Lawal, Hussein Toyin Kawu, Nureni Kuranga and Umar Zikki Jibril.

Four others were recommended to the Kaduna State Government for appointment as judge, High Court of Justice. They are Amina Ahmad Bello, Ambo Yakubu John, Andow Edward and Rabi Salisu Oladoja, while Phoebe Eva Alvan Okoronkwo was recommended to Abia State Government for appointment as judge, Customary Court of Appeal.

Thirty-three (33) others were recommended for appointment as judges High Court of Justice in the Federal Capital Territory.
They are Muhammad Mustapha Adamu, Madugu Mohammed Alhaji, Josephine Obanor Enobie, Kayode Agunloye, Enenche Eleojo, Nwabulu Ngozika Chineze, Abubakar Babashani, Aminu Muhammad Abdullahi, Nwecheonwu Chinyere Elewe, Ibrahim Mohammed, and Sadia Mu’azu Mayana. Still in the list for FCT are  Mimi Anne Katsina Alu-Apena, Kanyip Rosemary Indinya, Aliyu Yunusa Shafa, Mohammed Zubairu, Binta Dogonyaro, Christopher Opeyemi Oba, Adeyemi Ajayi Jadesola, Abubakar Husseini Musa, Adelaja Oluyemisi Ikeolupo, Mohammed Idris Sani, Frances Erhuvwu Messiri and Fatima Abubakar Aliyu.

Others are Jude Ogor Onwuegbuzie, Hamza Mu’azu, Edward Ajenu E. Okpe, Agashieze Cyprian Odinaka, Fashola Akeem Adebowale
Aliyu Halilu Ahmed, Hassan Maryam Aliyu, Hafsat Lawan Abba-Aliyu, Olufola Olufolashade Oshin and Njideka K. Nwosu-Iheme.

Two judges were recommended to the Katsina State Government for appointment as judges, High Court of Justice. The beneficiaries are  Muhammad Ashiru Sani and Safiya Umar Badamasi, while Musa Usman and Kyanson Samuel Lawson were recommended to the Adamawa State Government for appointment as judges, High Court of Justice.

 Messrs. Adam Salihu Yarima and Muhammed Adam Makiyu were recommended for appointment as Kadis Sharia Court of Appeal, Katsina State.

A statement by Director of Information, Mr. Soji Oye said all recommended candidates are expected to be sworn-in after approval by the President, Muhammadu Buhari, GCFR and their respective State Governors and confirmation by the respective State House of Assembly.
