LAGOS, Nigeria – Jehovah’s Witnesses worldwide will today at sundown celebrate the Lord’s Evening Meal to commemorate the death of Jesus Christ.

But unlike before, the Lord’s Evening Meal or Lord’s Super will not hold in Kingdom Halls of Jehovah’s Witnesses especially in countries where the COVID-19 pandemic is present. But they will be holding electronic meeting to celebrate the memorial of Christ death.

The COVID-19 pandemic has killed over 70,000 people and has afflicted almost 2 million people worldwide. Jehovah’s Witnesses are holding the event electronically, primarily because they have a lot of respect for life and in obedience to circular authorities who have limited social gatherings and the lockdown in most cases.

The Memorial of Christ’s death is the most important occasion in the lives of Jehovah’s Witnesses based on Jesus’ command urging followers to celebrate the occasion in rememberance of him and it turned out to be the only occaision in the Bible that Jesus Christ authorised his followers to observe in memory of his sacrificial death in behalf of mankind.

The Lord’s Evening Meal also called Lord’s Supper is held every year by the JW as Jehovah’s Witnesses are fondly called on Nissan 14 in obedience to Jesus’ command, urging all genuine Christians to commemorate it at Luke 22:19.

The Memorial was instituted by Jesus Christ on Nissan 14 in 33CE with the 11 Apostles after the departure of Judas Iscariot who eventually betrayed him for 30 pieces of silver.

Jehovah’s Witnesses follow the footsteps of Jesus Christ who used two emblems, the unleavened bread, which stands for his perfect body and unfermented wine, which represent his blood, shed once in behalf of all for forgiveness of sin and to keep hope alive on the basis of promised resurrection, Mark 14:22 – 24.

JW are commemorating the event today April 07 because it corresponds to Nissan 14 in the Jewish Calendar, the day that Jesus Christ instituted the memorial.

They are inviting you all to celebrate this sobre moment with them by reflecting on the benefit of the sacrificial death of Jesus Christ. For example, that sacrifice availed all of us forgiveness of our sins and hope for the resurrection. Click JW.ORG to watch the memorial talk.
