Doctors in Anambra embark on indefinite strike
ONITSHA, Nigeria – Medical Doctors in Anambra state, have embarked on an indefinite industrial action to compel the state Government to adhere to agreement signed with them.
Addressing journalists at General Hospital Onitsha, on Monday, the State Chairman Dr. Livinus Chukwuma, said the strike was necessitated by the failure of the Anambra state Government to obey the agreement it signed with the Civil Service Doctors and Nigerian Medical Association.

According to him, doctors in the state had earlier embarked on 13 months strike action due to the failure of the state Government to implement the Consolidated Medical Salary Structure, as prescribed by the Federal Government as the standard for all doctors in the federal civil services.
He said that their strike was called off after intervention by some eminent persons in the state and an agreement was reached with an memorandum of understanding MoU signed.

He stated that the MoU stipulate that government would periodically review the salaries until 100 per cent was achieved, starting with 50 per cent.
According to him,the Federal Government had in 2014 reviewed the salaries up and the state is not doing anything. He said that the doctors in the state were pained and disheartened that they are the least paid doctors in the whole of the country .
According to him, the state government has failed to keep to its part of the bargain and doctors would not go back to work untill their demands are met.
