ONITSHA, Anambra, Nigeria – National Youth Service Corp (NYSC), Anambra State chapter in partnership with Civil Society Network, National Orientation Agency (NOA) and  Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), among other groups in Onitsha today staged a walk  against corruption in the country.

It could be recalled that the Economic and Financial Crime Commission is partnering  NYSC to hold a nationwide march against corruption. The walk  which started at popular Aroma junction terminated at the Eke Awka market, Awka.

Addressing participants  at the  Aroma junction Awka, the Anambra state coordinator of the NYSC, Chief Kehinde Aremu, appealled  to Nigerian youths in respective of tribe, religious or political affiliations to rise up and support the government’s fight  against the menace of corruption in the country.

According to him, corruption is killing Nigerians and  the unborn children.

” If  we didn’t fight  corruption  and  kill it, corruption will eventually kill Nigeria in no distance time” he said. Aremu said  that, because of the level of corruption in the county, the  image of Nigeria before international communities is dented. He urged Nigerian youths not to allow any corrupt leader around them to ruin their future for any reasons.

Speaking at the walk against corruption,  an official of the EFCC’s department of Asset Forfeiture Abuja, Michael Nzekwe  stated that the walk was the first since the agency’s establishment.

According to him,the sensitization walk was in line with section 6 of the law that permits the commission to organised programmes especially for the youth about the danger of corruption in the society. He also called on the corps members serving in Anambra state to always mobilize and educate people in their host communities about the negative effect of corruption.

On his part, the Chairman, Anambra Civil Society Network, Prince Chris Azor, said the march will serve as a platform to sensitise and mobilise Nigerian youths to reject the evil of corruption that has bedeviled the country.

The Nigeria Police Force, Federal Road Safety Corp, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corp and some concern Human Right we also part of the anti-corupt crusade.
