Amnesty: Buhari suspends Charles Dokubo
LAGOS, Nigeria – President Muhammadu Buhari has approved the suspension of Coordinator of Amnesty Programme, Professor Charles Quaker Dokubo.
The president okayed his suspension, following recommendation of the Caretaker Committee set up by the National Security Adviser, to investigate the programme following allegations and petitions received on the amnesty programme.
In a statement, Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, Mr. Femi Adesina said part of the task of the committee is to ensure that allocated resources are properly utilised in consonance with government’s directive in alleviating problems in the Niger Delta region and stamping out corruption in the Presidential Amnesty Programme.
“Consequently, the NSA recommend to Mr. President that the Coordinator of the Amnesty Programme, Professor Charles Quaker Dokubo be suspended, a recommendation that has been approved which takes immediate effect.
He said the President further directed that the committee should review and oversee the running of the Amnesty Programme and ensure that the government’s objectives are achieved.
