Buhari: I will be fair to all geopolitical zone of of Nigeria
ONITSHA, Anambra, Nigeria – President Muhammadu Buhari has reiterated his commitment to being fair to all parts of the country, irrespective of political affiliation.
The president gave the assurance on Monday while handing over Umunze Erosion/Flood Control and Road Improvement works in Orumba South of Anambra State. Buhari represented by the Minister of State for Environment, Mrs. Sharon Okeazor said that no part of the country will suffer any neglect owing to its geographical location or political considerations.
“The present administration under me, promised that no part of the country will suffer any neglect owing to its geographical location or political considerations and I am committed to making sure that everybody is treated equally in the country. This is a testimony to that. I will remain faithful to all parts of the country” he said.
The president also said that erosion menace has become one of the major challenge in Anambra state, assuring federal government committed to addressing it frontally. He urged the residents to stop indiscriminate dumping of refuse as it is one of the major cause of errosion.
Speaking at the occasion, the governor of Anambra state Chief Willie Obiano, who thanked the Federal Government for the good work, said the state was losing its little land to erosion. Obiano who was represented by the Deputy Governor, Dr. Nkem Okeke said that Anambra state has the smallest landmass in the country and erosion was rapidly taking it over.
“Erosion is one of the major challenge in the state . It is taking our little land rapidly. Please, stop indiscriminate waste disposal, don’t build on water way and drainage. These are the major causes of erosion and we must avoid them” he said.
The chairman of Orumba South local government area, Barr. Raymond Onyeju commended the Federal Government for fixing the road which he described as impassable before now. According to him,before now, nobody could ply his vehicle on this road, but today people are proudly using it.
The chairman also stated that the construction of the road would increase business activities in the area, especially the farmers who before now were finding it difficult to transport their farm produces to the cities.
Also speaking,the president general of Umunze Progressive Union, John Akayionu , expressed gratitude to the federal government for remembering them in that road. He said the road is an ancestral roads and their ancestors were happy for the construction of the road and promised that they would do everything things possible to maintain and keep it clean at all times.
“Our ancestors are happy for the construction of this road. This road has been bad for years and no body ply his motor on this road but today it is motorable and good to ply. We thank the federal government for the the construction of this road. Our ancestors are happy ” he said.
