ABUJA, Nigeria – It was another day of tyranny in the history of Nigeria that officials of the Department of State Service(DSS) under the watch of President Muhammadu Buhari in an unprecedented manner stormed the court room presided over by Justice Ijeoma Ojukwu of the Federal High Court, knock Sowore down like a common criminal before he was eventually forcefully taken away amidst shout of leave Sowore alone inside the court room.
Many applauded the DSS for releasing Sowore and his colleague, Olawale Bakare less less than 12 hours after a 24 hours ultimatum was issued by her lordship, Justice Ijeoma Ojukwu but it did not last long before the DSS invaded the court at the resumption of hearing of the trial of the convener, #revolutionnow.
The invasion of another arm of government by the DSS threw the court into an uproar. Watch video here.
The DSS operatives swooped on Sowore shortly after Justice Ijeoma Ojukwu adjourned the matter to February 11, 2020 for continuation of trial.
Sowore and his colleague, Olawale Bakare are on trial for convenining #revolutionnow and slammed with charges of treasonable felony, money laundering and insulting President Muhammadu Buhari by the DSS.
Reacting to the arrest inside the court, Former Presidential aspirant under the auspices of the Allied Congress Party of Nigeria(ACPN) Dr. Oby Ezekwesili described the development as nothing but desecration of the judiciary adding “today’s episode amounts to full aggression against the Judiciary by the Executive arm of @MBuhari and portends an extremely dangerous development”, she said.
“President @MBuhari, the whole world is watching the video of officials of the State Security Service which you directly supervise, brutally violate the constitutional rights of a citizen @YeleSowore inside a court and desecrated our Judiciary- an independent arm of government”, she said, adding that “I have just spoken to the incredible Femi Falana — SAN whose amazing and highly effective legal representation of citizen @YeleSowore with a strong team of lawyers is the silver lining in this tragic case. I once again conveyed our abiding strong support and gratitude
“I urge my fellow citizens who are reasonable enough to know that today’s episode amounts to full aggression against the Judiciary by the Executive arm of @MBuhari and portends an extremely dangerous development. We must all stand to defend our hard won Democracy”, she said.
