Court summons DSS, Malami over Sowore
ABUJA, Nigeria – A Federal High Court sitting in Abuja today summoned Director General of the Department of State Service(DSS), Yusuf Bichi and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami to appear before it to show reason why the court should not order unconditional release of Publisher of Sahara Reporters and convener #revolutionnow, Omoyele Sowore.
Justice Inyang Ekwo, ordered the duo to appear and show cause why he will not order unconditional release of Sowore from detention. Justice Ekwo who is going on vacation before the hearing said another judge would continue with the case.
Sowore had through his lawyer, Abubakar Marshal filed suit number FHC/ABJ/CS/1409/2019 before the court challenging his rearrest by the secret police.
But when the matter came up today, Abubakar Marshal prayed the court to order the release of Sowore. But Sowore’s request was turned down by the judge.
Recall that Sowore was rearrested at Justice Ijeoma Ojukwu’s court after adjourning the case to February 11, 2019. Sowore has been in detention for over 136 days.
His major lawyer, Femi Falana has written the Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami to release him from detention after he took over the case from the Department of DSS.
