Africa unite concert: Burna Boy explodes, says you can’t stop me
PRETORIA, South Africa – Nigeria’s Afro-fusion maestro, Burnaboy is set to hit South Africa come November 23 for the Africa unite concert, coming after Xenophobia which seems to have polarised African states.
For the first time, Africa was at war with itself as citizen take on each other in free for all. The result was that hundreds of lives were lost and properties in millions of USD destroyed across Africa.
Nigeria and South Africa have been best of friends right from the apathied era with Nigeria playing Big Brother figure but xenophobia almost destroyed all that but for the maturity exhibited by President Muhammadu Buhari.
But it seems that the ordinary Africans on the street are determined to put xenophobia behind and one way they are doing it is through the Africa unite concert.
Alot of artistes have been lined up for the show both in South Africa and Nigeria. Notable in Nigeria is Burna Boy but the South African artistes who have been pencilled down for the concert are not happy with the choice of Burna Boy and they have threatened not to share the stage with him.
But Burna Boy, a very rugged man has said nothing can stop him from going for the concert which has been put together to unite the continent. The venue is the Sun Arena in Pretoria, South Africa.
The grouse of the artistes kicking against his inclusion was that he misrepresented facts in the heat of xenophobic attacks on Nigerians in SA and for this, they insist he must apologise. But Burna Boy is not going to do that being one of those who see themselves as Proudly African. He believes he is an African, neither a foreigner nor the real enemy of South Africa.
As he puts it, “saying I mislead people? And I made up the Xenophobic attacks and I should apologise. Really? Lol. In 2015 Even I was a victim of the misguided hate so I know. Go and demand apologies from your REAL Enemies. I am not your Enemy. I will not be called “foreigner” I am AFRICAN”, he said.
To make it very clear, he said, he will be in Pretoria and that nothing can stop him, except death. “Lol. I’m coming and you and anyone against it are gunna have to kill me to stop me”, he fumed, adding that his mission is to make the African passport as powerful as that of the United States of America.
“Please my people, there should never be a South Africa vs Nigeria war or any African country vs African country war Ever. We must unite by any means for the future of our children n their children. I want a united African passport that will be as powerful as the (American) passport”, he said, using the American flag as a symbol.
Burna Boy and Tiwa Savage declined invitation to perform in South Africa in the heat of xenophobic attacks on Nigerians in South Africa.
