Tiwa Savage, Don Jazzy in trouble over copyright infringement

IKOYI, Lagos, Nigeria – Doyen of the Nigerian music industry, Don Jazzy and his former label bearer, Tiwa Savage are in trouble over alleged theft of copyright work belonging to one musician, Olumuyiwa Danladi better known as Danny Young.

Danny Young as he is foundly called has filed a N205 million suit against both musician for alleged theft of his musical work.
In the suit tagged FHC/L/CS/230/2019 filed at the Federal High Court, Ikoyi, Lagos, through his lawyer, Justin Ige, Danny Young is claiming N200 million in damages against Don Jazzy and Tiwa Savage for copyright violation and N5 million as cost of litigation.

He is also seeking an account of the profit that accrued to the disputed musical work titled ONE. We however gathered that the defendants are are yet to file response to the suit since February 2019 when the suit was filed.

In the suit due for hearing November 5, 2019, the complainant is seeking a declaration that by copying, recording, reproducing and broadcasting his musical work without his authorisation, the musicians have infringed on his copyright works.

Danny Young is also seeking pepertual injunction, restraining the defendants, whether by themselves or by the agents from further copying, recording and communicating his musical composition to the public without his authorisation.
