LAGOS, Nigeria – Afrobeat musician, Seun Anikulapo Kuti will with effect from 12 midnight today turn off all his South African services to protest xenophobic attacks on Nigerians in South Africa, which has resulted in deaths of over 120 Nigerians and lose of means of livelihood.
Seun Kuti said he is turning off the services in solidarity with all the victims of the tragedy. But he is however advising Nigerians to stop burning down officies or businesses of South Africans in Nigeria, stressing that they all have been insured and that only the poor workers will suffer as a result of the impasse.
“LETS HEAL!! There is no point in burning down their offices or business they have INSURANCE and only the POOR WORKERS will lose their jobs!! I WILL TURN OFF ALL MY SOUTH AFRICAN SERVICES FROM MIDNIGHT ON FRIDAY TILL MIDNIGHT ON SUNDAY IN SOLIDARITY WITH ALL THE VICTIMS OF THIS TRAGEDY!!”, the Afrobeat maestro said on the social media.
He is preaching love, respect and understanding the way Kwami Nkruma, Thomas Sankara and his late father and King of Afrobeat, Fela Anikulapo Kuti would have wanted.
“Let’s approach each other with LOVE RESPECT AND UNDERSTANDING, the way Nkrumah would want , the way Sankara would want, The way Fela would want not with hate like our oppressors. How do u engage with ur brother the way Buhari engages with him? Then u are an oppressor. How many Nigerians have we burnt alive for 20 naira?
“How many Congolese have been killed for being poor? How many Ghanaians? How many Senegalese? We are a reflection of one another!
“LETS HEAL!! There is no point in burning down their offices or business they have INSURANCE and only the POOR WORKERS will lose their jobs!! I WILL TURN OFF ALL MY SOUTH AFRICAN SERVICES FROM MIDNIGHT ON FRIDAY TILL MIDNIGHT ON SUNDAY IN SOLIDARITY WITH ALL THE VICTIMS OF THIS TRAGEDY!!
“This is a message to the Political and business elites in SA, THAT WE KNOW THE REAL ENEMY AND NO MATTER WHAT YOUR AGENTS DO IN OUR COMMUNITIES TO DIVIDE US WE AS THE PEOPLE OF AFRICA WILL FIND COMMON GROUND IN THE STRUGGLE TO DESTROY THE SYSTEM THAT GIVES U THE PRIVILEGE THAT YOU ABUSE!! AFRICAN PEOPLE, LETS HEAL EACHOTHER NOT KILL EACHOTHER. Na so dem tell us sef for Nigeria in the 80s say na Ghanaians dey cause our problem and we sef fall MUGU! Know thy enemy #getthesax
