LAGOS, Nigeria – The Islamic Movement of Nigeria(IMN) otherwise called Shiite today defied the Nigerian Police and went ahead to stage the annual Ashura procession in Abuja, the Federal Capital Territory.

The Shiite group hold the anual Ashura Procession every September 10.

The procession today started as early as 8:am, a few kilometres from Berger Roundabout. The Shiites moved in group, holding their flags up to Wuse, and hurriedly concluded the exercise to avoid any confrontation with security personnel.

Although the procession did not take time, it however engendered traffic gridlock along their route. The shiite staged the protest despite threat from the police that they will be threated like terrorists if they embarked on the procession.
