LAGOS, Nigeria – Chevron Nigeria Limited, (CNL), a global energy brand and operator of the joint venture between the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) – NNPC/CNL JV has been honoured with the award of ‘Outstanding Social Investment Company of the Year’.

The international oil and gas firm received the award at the recently concluded 2019 Annual Conference and Awards of the National Association of Energy Correspondents (NAEC) in Lagos.

The theme of the conference was: “Harnessing Oil & Gas Potential for National Development”. Receiving the award for Chevron Nigeria, Mr Victor Anyaegbudike , the acting Head, External Communication of Chevron said the Company plays an active role in the  economic development Nigerian and has made a lot of social investment in the country.

Also in  his own goodwill message ,Anyaegbudike  said  that Chevron is one of the largest oil producers in Nigeria and one of the  largest investors is in line with the theme of this year NAEC Conference. He added  that the company operates under a joint-venture arrangement with the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) for the onshore and offshore assets in the Niger Delta region welcome total sanctity of contracts in commercial operations.

“As major player in the sector, Chevron has supplied over 413 billion metric cubic of gas to domestic market.”

 Anyaegbudike pointed out that CNL adopted the Global Memorandum of Understanding in 2005 as a new approach to community engagement in the Niger Delta, giving communities a greater role in managing their development through Regional Development Committees.

Since then, the NNPC/Chevron joint venture has spent more than $118 million on roughly 600 programmes that have provided scholarships; built new schools, medical facilities and housing; and supported agriculture development and infrastructure improvements.

 “Chevron is committed to the Nigerian government’s policy on local content development. CNL fosters strong business partnerships with local service providers and product suppliers and works to increase their professional capabilities. CNL’s Local Community Content Development team promotes commerce with local businesses”.

“The Company’s role as a corporate citizen in Nigeria is active in many projects that promote health, economic development and education at all levels”. According to him, CNL has been supporting Journalists over the years in the area of capacity building with over 1000 trained through Pan Africa University for effective reportage of the sector.

CNL has also committed substantial resources over the years in implementing initiatives aimed at combating several diseases in communities close to its operations and beyond. The initiatives include River Boat Clinic, building of community health centers, donation of medical supplies and sponsorship of health campaigns

Recently, Chevron and its business parties announced its private sector support to the fight against TB through development of infrastructure and supply of medical equipment worth over N2.2 billion in different hospitals across the country.

This only shows that Chevron companies in Nigeria are committed to the socio-economic development of Nigeria through the building of mutually-beneficial partnerships and supporting Government efforts in Health development
