Defilement: You must remain in Kirikiri prison, court tells Adenekan, Chrisland School supervisor

IKEJA, Lagos, Nigeria – A Sexual Offences and Domestic Violence court sitting in Ikeja, today refused to grant bail to Chrisland School Supervisor, Mr. Adeboyega Adenekan, who is on trial for defilement, choosing to continue to keep him at the Kirikiri prison till judgement, which comes up October 24, 2019.
Justice Sybil Nwaka refused to grant the defendant bail on condition that he might jump bail. Adegboyega Adenekan is being prosecuted by the Lagos State Government for defiling a 2 year old former pupil in the nursery section of the school.
He pleaded not guilty to the charge of defilement when he was arraigned. Ruling on the matter, Justice Sybil Nwanka said she is mindful of the safety of the defendant, and remanded him in prison custody for his protection.
“I am mindful of the accused protection ” and therefore adjourned the case to 24th of October 2019 for judgement.
Earlier during the hearing, the prosecution led by B.T Boye told the court that factors to consider before granting bail to any defendant include the nature of offense, character of evidence, the criminal record of the defendant,likelihood of repetition of granted bail, guilt on the defendant side and detention for the protection of the defendant.
Adenekan a primary supervisor at Chrisland International Schools Lekki allegedly defiled a 2 year old pupil(names withheld) and was arraigned on the 14 November, 2016 on charges of defilement.
