Eko Disco flags off school feeding programe in Lagos

IKEJA, Lagos, Nigeria – Eko Electricity Distribution Company (EKEDC) on Wednesday commenced free feeding program initiative for pupils within its network as part of their Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR).

Mr Adeoye Fadeyibi, the Chief Executive Officer of EKEDC said the company is partnering with an NGO called “Food for Thought” to administer free lunch on daily bases for pupils.

The  company kick started it’s adoption of the school feeding with 110 pupils of Anglican Girls Seminary School on Broad Street in Lagos Island. Fadeyibi said the program was centered on empowering the pupils and to also make lives comfortable for them by providing a meal per day for one year.

According to him, this will also be a relief for the parents of 110 pupils, which we also plan to do more schools within our network as we go alone.

“We decided to start with Anglican Girls Seminary School to demonstrate our good intentions as part of our CSR responsibility to Nigerians and to pupils within operations. We are not the only company or people doing this, lots of individuals are also doing it quietly to feed pupils and other Nigerians,”he said.

The EKEDC helmsman, however, assured sustainability of the project, adding  said that process has also put in place through the NGO to ensure conformity and transparency.

” Its not about the amount invested but the good intentions involved to impact in the lives of our great pupils. We are happy for committing enough funds and we also look towards more corporate organisation and individuals to do more.

He, however, commended customers of the company for their effort in ensuring payment of bills, while urging them to ensure prompt payment of bills to keep the free food initiative going.

Miss Mary Dinah, Chief Charity Officer, Food for Thought, lauded Eko Disco management for the kind gesture in ensuring free food to over 100 pupils in Anglican Girls School. Dinah said that the initiative was about feeding the poor children in local schools, especially in Lagos Island.

She said the NGO started its free feeding initiative on 2017 on some random schools but that this is the first time the organisation it commencing daily feeding in school. According to her, we take the responsibility to feed all pupils in Anglican Girls Seminary School with the support of EKEDC.

“We are also partnering with Lagos State Government and United Nations for effective monitoring and proper administration.

In his remarks, Mr Mayegun Moshood, the Educational Secretary, Lagos Island Education Authority commended the initiative and support of EKEDC and Food for Thought. Moshood said that the initiative will go along way to reduce the suffering of their parents and also reduced their expenses.

“We will ensure adequate transparency and effective administration of the food to the pupils.
