British PM, Theresa May in tears, leaves office June 7
LONDON, United Kingdom – The British Prime Minister, Theresa May has said that she will resign as head of the Conservative Party on Friday June 7 to set up the process for the emergence of a new leader.
The PM who made the announcement at 10 Downing Street, London, said she was voted into power to deliver Brexit but that she has done everything to convince MPS to back Brexit but to no avail.
“Sadly I have not been able to do so. I have tried 3 times, so today … I announced that I will resign as leader of the Conservative and Unionist Party on Friday, June 7, I have kept Her Majesty, the Queen informed about about my intentions I will continue to serve as her Prime Minister until the process is concluded”, she said.
She said it now left for the new PM to find consensus in parliament where she has failed, a consensus that will be reached through compromise. She alluded to statement of late Nicholas Wintom who once told her that ” Never forget that compromise is not a dirty word, life depends on compromise”.
She described the referendum to deliver Brexist as not just a call to leave the EU but a call to make UK a country that really works for everyone, adding that today, national debt has fallen, austerity almost gone and that the Conservative Party has helped more people to enjoy security, protecting environment and improving air quality.
She said the party can deliver Brexit with sincerity of purpose.
“This country is a union, not just a family of 4 but a union of all people, irrespecitive of colour we stand together, and together we have a great future I will surely leave the job which has been the honour of my life to hold, the second female Prime Minister but certainly not the last. .. I do so with no ill will but with enoomous and enduring gratitude to serve the country I love”
