KHARTOUM, Sudan – The Minister of Defence in Sudan, Ahmed Awad Ibn Auf has announced himself as head of the Supreme Military Council in Sudan and immediately put in place a state of emergency for three months.
Ahmed Awad Ibn Auf who made the announcement in a national broadcast said he has also ordered the arrest of outsted President Omar Al-Bashir, and closure of the airspace and borders for 24 hours. He also announced cancellation of the constitution of Sudan, adding that the military will be in power for two years as a transitional govrnment and midwife a return to democracy during which a new constition will be in place.
In his short speech, Ahmad Awad Ibn Auf accused the government of Omar Al-Bashir of corruption and that there has been deadlock in governance, stressing that the rich are getting richer while the poor are getting poorer.
He explained that despite all the suffereing, despite all the false promises, the sudanese people have been, generous and tolerant despite failed promises before the youths took to the streets.
According to him, the security committee have to apologised for those who lost their lives, whether citizens or members of the police, and that the security forces has been quite professional in dealing with the crisis.

He said that with protest all over the place, the security forces warned of the dangerous situation and put measures in place and yet no response came from those in power. He said government has put in place a transistional period of 2 years, during which the armed forces will rule.
“I Minister of Defence, and chairman of the council, delcare arrest of head of the regime”, he said. He also ordered cancellation of the Sudanese constitution and that a new constitution will be put in place during the transition period.
He called for cooperation in buidlng the country, pledging that the ruling council will fight crime and that ceasefire will be declared, leading to release of all political prisoners for peaceful transfer of power in preparation for fair election and a new constitution.
