IKEJA, Lagos, Nigeria – A Lagos High Court sitting in Ikeja, Lagos today said it has no jurisdiction to entertain the suit challenging the Obaship of Oba Rilwan Akiolu, the Oba of Lagos.
The obaship tussle is between the two ruling houses, Ologbokutere and Akinshimoye.
The court presided over by Justice Candide Johnson, who cited cases decided said the court has no jurisdiction to entertain the suit to upturn long established tradition for deciding the Oba of Lagos. He said the jurisdiction lies with tribunals which have been set up by the Lagos state government in 1975 and 1978.
He said what the Akinshimoye have done by the suit is a burning desire to overturn succession disaster of over 239 years. According to him, the ruling house of Ologbokutere have produced the Oba of Lagos in the past 223 years.
