PORT HARCOURT, Rivers, Nigeria – At least four persons have been confirmed dead in the mega rally put together by the ruling All Progressive Congress(APC) in Rivers State.
The four person died in a stampede as supporters who stormed the venue of the rally hurry to leave the venue.
Unfortunately, it was a well attended rally which coincided with the judgement of the Supreme Court which set aside the appeal filed by the Rivers State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) challenging the decision to exclude its candidates from contesting the 2019 elections.
Speaking at the rally, President Buhari said, he is very disturbed by the decision that APC is not allowed to participate in some of the processes.
However expressed optimism that he will be re-elected. “I have no doubt that I got elected but I have to respect the institutions that I inherited. I assure you and I recommend that you remain patient and resolute. We will ensure that justice is done in this country”, he said
At stake during the election are are 32 House of Assembly seats, 13 House of Representatives seat and 3 senatorial positions besides the governorship and deputy governorship seats.
A day earlier, all the political parties in Rivers State besides the APC adopted candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party(PDP) as the sole governorship candidate for the March 2 election.
The President also begged the electorate to “bear with him” as he continues to fix the country.
