RMD: I have not received N5 million as lead actor in a film
LAGOS, Nigeria – Nigeria’s iconic actor, Richard Mofe Damijo, better known as RMD has said there is no so much money to be made in the Nigerian film industry as many people are made to believe in the social media.
He said a film producer will ask him where he will get the money, if he requests for N5 million as a lead actor in a film.
“If I am in a film and asked to be paid N5 m as a lead character, the producer will ask me where will I get the money”, he said on TV continental. He said there is money in the industry but that it is not for the actors, but that the money to be made is in music based on the kind of money the young boys in music make per show.
He is advising his colleagues in the industry to stop giving false impression about themselves and that most people in the industry are barely trying to survive.
“Please don’t give the wrong impression. There is money but not for the actors, not like the money these young boys make per show in music”, he said.
The actor who said jokingly that he no longer acts kissing roles in films said he would probably come home late if he were to feature in a film with the likes of Angelina Jolie, just like his wilfe, may probably not come home if she were to feature in a film with Willis Smith.
“My wife knows if I am in a film with Angelina Jolie, I’ll probaly come home late, same for his with Will Smith, she will probably not come home, so I wish he should not come to Nigeria”, he said. His message for Nigerians is “believe in yourself”.
Richard Mofe Damijo is one of those that started what is today known as Nollywood. He has featured in dozens of films and has also produced some.
