Protest hits Abuja, Enugu, Makurdi over Onnoghen’s suspension

ABUJA, Nigeria – Aggrieved Nigerians have stormed the street protesting recent suspension of Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Walter Kanu Onnoghen by President Muhammadu Buhari. Onnoghen was suspended by the President on Friday and hinged his decision on an order of the Code of Conduct Tribunal, CCT.

Members of the civil society protested in the premises of Federal High Court in Abuja, Makurdi and on the streets in Enugu, all calling for reinstatement of the CJN and an end to dictatorship.

Some of the protesters who are dressed in black T-shirts armed themselves with placards and banners with messages such as “Amaech, El-rufai, Akpabio, Malami, APC brains behind Onnoghen’s black trial; No rule of law, no Nigeria, NBA must act now by ordering lawyers to down tool, Buhari abusing democray, Time to save Nigeria from dictatorship”, among others.

In Abuja, the protesters were at NBA complex, US embassy and UN office, where they protested against Buhari’s impunity and tyranny. Their major demand was the reinstatement of CJN , Hon. Justice Walter Onnoghen and that due process must be followed in suspending him.

In Makurdi, Bar. Anngu Orngu and others, protested at Makurdi High Court, calling for reinstatement of Onnoghen and an end to dictatorship.
