Buhari orders prosecution of Babachir Lawal, Ayo Oke 2 months after sack
ABUJA, Nigeria – President Muhammadu Buhari has ordered the prosecution of former Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Babachir Lawal who was sacked since October 30, 2017 and former Director General of the National Intelligence Agency(NIIA), Mr. Ayo Oke.
Babachir Lawal was sacked when he awared contract for grasscutting in the Presidential Villa at a whopping cost of N220 million, while the former NIIA Director-General was also removed from office, following the discovery of $43 million at an apartment in Ikoyi, Lagos.
The committee headed by the Vice President, Yemi Osinbajo recommended prosecution of the two individuals but nothing was heard about it since then until two months later when the Vice President made the pronouncement.
While answering questions from reporters on the report of his committee, hee said: “I think the first thing for us is that the report was acted upon; the former SGF was dismissed. Second, the President has directed that the SGF and former DG of NIA be prosecuted.
“So, we are expecting that prosecution will take place. The next, of course, is that criminal allegations will be filed against them and the prosecution process will be completed.”
