LAGOS, Nigeria – Former Governor of Ekiti State, Mr. Ayo Fayose has inquired about the whereabout of the $1 billion withdrawn from the Excess Crude Account(ESCA) for the purpose of fighting the Boko Haram insurgents.

Fayose raised the posser in the light of recent statement credited to the Nigerian military that ht has not received the $1billion the 36 state governors okayed upon request from President Muhammadu Buhari in December 2017.

Governor of Edo State, Godwin Obaseki who made the announcement after the meeting of the National Economic Council which held inside the council chamber of the Presidential Villa Abuja said the approval was announced during the 83rd NEC meeting by the chairman of Nigeria Governors Forum, NGF, and Governor of Zamfara State, Abdulaziz Yari.

Fayose brought this issue to the fore as the Boko Haram insurgents continued to gain confidence after the massacre of over 100 Nigerian soldiers in Maiduguri. But the military had in a statement said only 23 soldiers were killed, 31 injured when the terrorists attacked 157 Task Force Batallon at Metele in November.

“Peter Ayodele Fayose @GovAyoFayose
12 months ago, I kicked against the FG decision to withdraw $1bn from the Excess Crude Account to fund the fight against Boko Haram. Three days ago, the military said it was yet to receive the $1bn. So I ask, where is the money? May God save our country”, he said on tweeter.
