OSOGBO, Osun, Nigeria – The notorious sex for marks lecturer at the Obafemi Awolowo University(OAU), Professor Richard Akindele has been convicted and sentenced to two years imprisonment by an Osun State High Court, sitting in Osogbo.
He was jailed for demanding sex from one of his students, Monica Osagie in return for pass marks in his course.
He had pleaded guilty to the charges. The lecturer who was dragged to court on 4 count charge was specifically sentenced to two years on count 1 and 2, and one year each on count 3 and 4, respectively. The sentence will run concurrently.
The amorous affairs of the professor came into public glare in April 2018, when one of his victims, Monica Osagie uploaded audio recording of a phone conversation he had with Akindele who was pestering the student for sex on a number of ocasion in return for pass mark.
During the hearing today, the prosecutor, Shogunle Adenekan appealed on his behalf for suspended sentence, stressing that all parties in the matter had opted for plea bargain
