YENEGOA, Bayelsa, Nigeria – A two day workshop for education administrators in Bayelsa State has ended in Yenagoa with a commitment by the state government to continue to expand the frontiers of technology based learning. This was the consensus position of the government led by the Secretary to the State Government, Mr. Kemela Okara who represented Governor Seriake Dickson, the Commissioner for Information and Orientation, Daniel Iworiso-Markson and his education counterpart, Hon. Jonathan Obuebite.




The workshop which was organized by the Bayelsa State Ministry of Education in partnership with Microsoft Inc. and TechTeens, is aimed at bringing the administrators up to speed with modern technology in order to facilitate their work.  In his remarks, Mr. Okara said the workshop is part of the state government’s effort to improve the standard of education in the state and asked the participants to take full advantage of it. 

He explained that the government is utilizing every opportunity to ensure that students and teachers in the state get the best form of training and learning which explains the reason for the collaboration with top organizations like Microsoft.  Also, speaking the Commissioner for Information and Orientation, Daniel Iworiso-Markson said after building and equipping public schools in the state, the government is now raising the capacity of teachers and other education facilitators. 

He noted that all over the world, e-learning is the key thing and Bayelsa cannot afford to be left behind, stressing that the state is ready to maintain its pride of place in the nation’s education sector.

Iworiso-Markson who thanked the Ministry of Education for organizing the workshop said it is another novelty, coming few days after the official launch of the result checking scratch cards for the state’s internal exams. 

The Information Commissioner who also thanked Governor Dickson for paying so much attention to science and technology based education, maintained that the workshop came at the right time. 

While delivering his address, the Commissioner for Education and Chief Host, Hon. Jonathan Obuebite said the two day programme will help increase the knowledge of participants in ICT. According to him, the workshop is in fulfillment of the drive of the Restoration Government led by Governor Dickson to ensure that the education sector in the state is transformed technologically. 

Hon. Obuebite thanked the governor for the opportunity to organize the workshop, saying the love the state chief executive has for education cannot be overempahsized. He also commened the Microsoft Education Lead, Mr. Sola Amosun, the CEO TechTeens, Chichi Okafor for the collaboration as well as for choosing to parner the state government.
