COURT SENDS 3 MEN TO PRISON FOR THEFT OF ALOMO BITTERS, OTHERS

IGBOSERE, Lagos, Nigeria – A Lagos Magistrate Court sitting in Igbosere today sentenced three men to two months imprisonment for stealing Alomo Bitters and other alcoholic beverages, without any option of fine.




The three men are Leke Falode 22, Braimoh Clinton 23 and Anthony Benjamin 29. Magistrate Mrs A.A Famobiwo sentenced them to two months imprisonment after finding them guilty of conspiracy and burglary.

The prosecutor Sergeant Mawari Solomon during told the court during arraignment that the convicts conspired with others still at large to steal the items.

According the prosecutor, the suspects broke the cupboard of one Suliat Aseoye and stole 50 pieces of Can Malt valued N7, 500, 50 pieces of Can Star, valued N7,500, 50 Can Gulder, valued N7,500, 70 pieces of Lucozade Boost valued at N10,500 and 180 Sachets of Alomo bitters valued N18,000. Solomon said that the total amount of all the items is N51,000, property of Adeoye.

He they are guilty of conspiracy, burglary and stealing Punishable Under Sections 411,309 and 287 of the Criminal laws of Lagos State 2015. The convicts however pleaded guilty to count one and two and pleaded innocent to the third count.

While the Magistrate was pronouncing the sentence, she “Said the reason for the leniency is because they are still young and they are first time offenders”. She however granted them N50,000 bail with one surety each in like sum for the third count charge.

Magistrate Famobiwo further stated that after they finish their jail term, they would come and face trial on the third count charge of stealing.
