ABUJA, Nigeria – Acting Director General of the Department of State Services(DSS), Mr. Mathew Seiyefa has vowed to reform the DSS. Mathew Seiyefa who was speaking at a press conference in Abuja said that the new DSS will work in the public interest, obey the rule of law and the constitution.

He said that the DSS would protect its constitutional mandate and review issues which portray the DSS in a bad light. The DSS has been accused over the years of unlawful detention without trial.

“Nigeria comes first; the peace and security of this nation come first. That is why we are in business and if not, we will not be. It’s in our collective and enlightened self-interest too to protect our people and execute our mandate within the tenets of the law,” he said.

He also vowed to guide against promotion of sectional interest and appealed to the media to be fair in reporting the agency but that it would not tolerate the abuse of freedom of speech by any person. He noted that the service was ready to partner with all stakeholders to contain all forms of national threats in the country.
