NIGERIA ROUTS ICELAND 2-0 TO KEEP HOPE ALIVE
VOLGOGRAD, Russia – A superb strike from Ahmed Musa in the 49th minutes put Nigeria ahead in the ongoing FIFA World Cup in Russia in a keenly contested match that ended 0-0 in the first half.
The goal came just four minutes after Brian Idowu secured a yellow card when he committed foul with a player from Iceland
The Super Eagles came in more determined in the second half after the lads from Iceland completely knocked the Super Eagles off, keeping them at bay with a well coordinated defensive play.
Ahmed Musa hit the bar in the 73 minutes but he was on song again in the 75th minutes when he connected a ball from Victor Moses and dribbled into box 16 before finding the back of the net.
Iceland however missed the chance to pull one goal back when the penalty awarded by centre referee was shot wide by Number 10 shirt.
The score now takes Nigeria to the second place just below Croatia in the group. Nigeria will play Argentina on Tuesday while Croatia will take on Iceland same day.
