YABA, Lagos, Nigeria – The Yaba Chief Magistrate’s Court today ordered the remand of Mrs Udeme Odibi, who allegedly killed her husband, a lawyer, in Kirikiri Female Prisons.
Udeme Odibi was said to have castrated her husband and ripped off his intestine with knife before he passed out. Odibi, was docked on one count charge bordering on murder by the Police contrary to and punishable under section 223 of the criminal laws of Lagos state of Nigeria, 2015.
After the charge was read to the defendant, the prosecutor, Mr. Effiong Asuquo, a Chief Superintendent of Police, CSP, told the court that the accused committed the offences on May 3rd at her residence by ripping out her husband’s intestine and genitals with a knife in Diamond Estate, Sango-Tedo, Lagos.
He urged the court to remand the forty seven year old lawyer in prisons custody, pending an advice from the Directorate of Public Prosecution, DPP.
Defense counsel, Mr. Oluseye Bamijoko informed the court that the result of psychiatric evaluation carried out on his client was not made available to them.
In her ruling, the presiding Chief Magistrate, Mrs. Kikelomo Ayeye ordered that the accused be remanded pending an outcome of legal advice from the State Directorate of Public Prosecution.She also declined the request to stop the planned burial of the deceased tomorrow saying that will be a rude interruption to the right of the deceased. The matter has been adjourned till 25 of June for outcome of DPP advice.
