I HAVE PROSTRATE CANCER, NOTORIOUS FRAUDSTAR, EMMANUEL NWUDE CRIES OUT
IKEJA, Lagos, Nigeria – A Special Offences Court sitting in Ikeja, Lagos today refused to grant bail to notorious fraudster, Emmanuel Nwude, who allegedly conspired with two others to dispose properties forfeited by a court order to the Federal Government. Nwude alongside two lawyers, Emmanuel Ilechukwu and Rowland Kalu were arraigned on 15-count charge bordering on forgery and dealing in forfeited property. The defendants pleaded not guilty to the charges. The second and third defendants were granted bail at the last hearing.
At the resumed hearing today, counsel to the first defendant, Mr. Victor Okpara, argued that his client was due for a prostrate cancer surgery this month, adding that going to prison will inhibit him from undergoing the surgery. He prayed the court to grant Nwude bail in the most liberal terms pending the hearing and determination of the charge against him.
But EFCC counsel, Nnaemeka Omewa opposed to the bail application on the grounds that the purported surgery, was just a mere assertion without an expert opinion and a medical certificate to that effect. He, therefore, urged the court to dismiss the application and grant accelerated hearing in the matter.
In her ruling, Justice Dada said no single documentation had been brought before the court in support of the assertion as such the court cannot grant the application.
